Quartier Latin, Noumea, New Caledonia

Downtown Noumea has a four-storey limit on new developments (with some exemptions), so quite a few old buildings in the Latin Quarter are left empty when the last tenant moves out. After coffee and pastries at the city market I wandered around, taking pics.

There are new buildings too - a bigger and better Museum of New Caledonia is under construction at the end of the street where we stayed. The main public library (3rd extra) seems to have closed, but maybe not if their website is up to date. Boutiques, small galleries and upmarket homewares shops share the same block with tattoo parlours and former Chinese restaurants.

I liked the mural on the nickel smelter on the way to the airport.

Thanks for hosting Marlieske.
