Solstice +1   After yesterday’s disappointing attempt to record the solstice sun I managed to see the sun rising behind a distant copse this morning at 4.36 and the sun setting beyond the same barley field to the north northwest at 21.58.
It was surprising how many birds were singing and within two minutes my bird app recorded chaffinch, house sparrow, chiffchaff, wren, dunnock, wood pigeon, blue tit and skylark but surprisingly no blackbird or robin which are the usual dawn singers.  At sunset I heard only a gull and a blackbird.
