Venice - day 3

Backblipped on Thursday 22/6.  Another hot day, but we decided to catch the train to Padua (Padova to the Italians).  Love the 3 tier trains - immaculate and very quiet and smooth.  Short journey but a bit of a hike from the station to reach the town centre.  We stopped en route to cool off by stopping to visit the Capella degli Scrovegni and The Civic Museum.  The museum was a very interesting place full of artefacts and archeological finds, and then a huge art gallery on the upper floors. The chapel is on a timed visit, and we joined a restricted number of visitors in an air conditioned room to watch a video about the history. The stay in there is 15 minutes - something to do with balancing the air to avoid damaging the chapel (?).Giotto painted the amazing frescoes in the chapel and in 2021 the chapel was declared a UNESCO world heritage site of 14th century fresco cycles along with 8 other buildings in the city. Entering the chapel takes your breath away - the colours and the detail are amazing. The photos I have used certainly don't do it justice. We then walked into the centre to the lively classical piazza surrounding the river.  We would have visited the botanical gardens (one of the first in the world), but we were completely overheated by then!  We made our way back towards the station having a short refreshment break on the way, and then another efficient train service back into Venice.  Cold showers then out for dinner at a lovely little restaurant.  We said we would like fish and the lovely lady running the restaurant suggested a mixed fish starter and then sea bass - starter in extras - it was wonderful! Raised a glass to hubby who has now been gone 7 years - certainly doesn't seem that long.  He would have loved this holiday.
