Bamboo Shoot
the oldest clump of bamboo just outside the pumphouse door is sending up spring shoots.
about 30 years ago the care center in town decided it didn't want its crop of bamboo growing outside its windows anymore. i did my part to help them remove it by digging out a few mature culms and transplanting them on our property near the old 300-gallon steel water tank on the hill above the house.
today the clumping patch has grown to a width of about 15 feet and reaches as high as about 20 feet. the bamboo makes a soothing sound when a light breeze rustles its leaf blades.
