Teasels

Today's the day ..................... to reach for the sky

There are two giants that regularly seed themselves in our garden - and that we can pretty much guarantee will put in an appearance somewhere in it.

The first is the yellow-headed verbascum or mullein - and the other is this one - the teasel.  It must be a good seven or eight feet high and is unmistakable with that spiny stem and characteristic spikey flower/seedhead.  

The good thing is though, that even when they're long gone as growing plants, the birds (specially goldfinches) love them for their seeds.  The extra is a left over one from last year, growing right next to this one.  They both look equally dramatic against that blue sky .......................
