Katie
Apologies for so many work blips recently, I'm having one of those busy weeks where I feel proud of myself if I remember to eat, sleep, get dressed etc. I survived the two back-to-back Connemara weddings, and though I feel a bit like I've been hit by a truck I'm excited to do it all again tomorrow! Today I took a little detour on the 5 hour drive home to spend a couple of hours with this little one, 6 day old newborn Katie.
This is no ordinary newborn however, this is a Bates baby!
The David Bates Building is the name of the place where I used to work, the Maths & Theoretical Physics department at Queen's University, and collectively our group of mathematician friends were known as the Bates Crew. Katie's mum Geraldine and I shared a PhD supervisor, though she worked on big powerful lasers and I worked with little delicate ones. This is the first baby from our generation of Batesers, so it's quite exciting for everyone :)
