On the corner

This distinctive building which stands not only on the corner of a little cul de sac but also  on the corner where Dunoon (seamlessly) becomes Kirn , was built as a hotel.

Originally the Kirn Inn it became the Queen's Hotel sometime after the accession of Queen Victoria in 1837 and first appears on the Valuation Roll in that name in 1859.      The very distinctive Arts and Crafts extension was added in 1904 and , many years later, it was where  the redoubtable Winnie Ewing worked as a student in the vacations when studying law at Glasgow Unviersity,

The building is now "C" listed but has become  private flats .  I think it caught my eye today, when I was visiting the dentist which is only a few doors along towards Dunoon because one of the flats is for sale from which , I suspect, the view over the Clyde to Gourock and beyond will be  sensational .
