Stainforth Bridge
Pal Verity and I took the train to Long Preston today and then walked to Stainforth via Settle to recce another route for the Duke of Edinburgh Expedition. It was a lovely walk which neither of us had done before, with spectacular views of the Dales limestone scars of Langcliff and Giggleswick as well as tumbling streams, quiet woodland and hillsides covered in wild garlic. We stopped for a cuppa at the hidden waterfall at Scaleber Bridge which was very pretty and then again on the River Ribble in Settle. We followed the river beyond Settle, past the scenic village of Stackhouse and on into Stainforth, where we crossed this bridge and had a well earned rest in the Craven Heifer Pub with a welcome drink whilst we waited for the Dales Bus to arrive and take us to Settle Station, which must have the best views of railway stations in the country!
A super day!
