A trip back in time with Queen Mary et al

Today we visited Loch Leven Castle. This site is run by historic Scotland and involves a 10 minute boat trip to the Island in the middle of the loch where the castle is housed.

This is where Mary Queen of Scots was held prisoner and abdicated the thrown during her internment here. Robert the Bruce also visited this castle a few times so it is steeped in history. As well as all this it is a great spot for a picnic. A nice day out.

On the way home we stopped at Dunfermline glen so the kids could run riot in the park and enjoy an ice cream.

Knowing that sunny days are so few and far between in Scotland we do like to make the most of it.
