Long lived
Just 3 of over 80 orchid seedlings which have come up in our no mow lawn.
About 60 are Common Spotted as shown here and 20 are Northern Marsh Orchids.
They have undoubtedly been there since before the house was built 58 years ago.
The plot was limestone grassland with Yew trees.
In recent years we have delayed mowing and Mrs.K. has dug some of the up and transferred them to other parts of the garden.
But then the grass has been mowed. It is only by leaving the mowing even later that we have discovered how many there are.
They are remarkable survivors.
