Superpower

The place we bedded down at in Kilwa is linked to an Australia-funded social enterprise, and appears to be a rest house-cum-school for orphans-cum-agro-ecological farm. We didn’t understand the setup, yet we did find it friendly and welcoming.

As we left the manager asked whether we were Australian. We confirmed we were British. ‘Scottish?’
‘No, English.’
‘You come from a superpower.’
‘Erm.’

My parents are in Jersey for the mother’s birthday tomorrow, which is an unspecified year within her 70s. According to photo evidence they’re downing a jug of mojito on a Sunday night. This is what I call a real superpower.

Back in Dar es Salaam after a long journey, these gents were getting busy with their fishing nets.
