Mixed day
Slept really well last night in our lay by, switching our lights off at before 11. It is hand that the battery had charged enough on the 2 hour drive, so that we could have the lights on. We used the gas to boil the kettle last night, but as we had eaten at home before leaving, nothing else needed to be done.
I woke at just before 5, so woke Jon and we got up and basically just wound the legs up and got on the road. It was approximately 280 miles and we wanted to get a chunk of the A1 under our belt before traffic built up. At 7.30 we stopped at a services we recognised for breakfast. We spent about an hour there, recharging our batteries. Then onwards towards Newcadtle - and the obligatory photo of the angel. Less blurred than usual, and no canoe in the pic, so I did well considering the many obstacles from the moving car, through the windscreen. One day, we will stop to visit it.
We tried to find somewhere in Alnwick to stop. But being a long vehicle, it was impossible, so we continued on and found a lay by to park up in. I made coffee and we just relaxed for another half an hour.
We arrived at the campsite Drummorh at 1.30. Jon set up, while I made lunch.
At about 4, we felt suitably rested to walk into Musselburgh. We were really just checking out the bus stop, but ended up on a 2 hour, over 12000 step walk there and back. It wasn't a pretty town, but is by the sea and has a racetrack and golf course. Sadly the high street kooks shabby - but we did get these lively ice creams. We bought a few essentials in a Spar and walked home in a bit of drizzle.
I cooked tortellini (my level - chuck it in a pan of boiled water) for dinner and we opened a bottle of our favourite wine. Feeling shattered now, so plan a relaxed day tomorrow in the caravan.
