Spotted Flycatcher

On Springwatch last night Chris Packham mentioned the Spotted Flycatcher.  He is struggling to see them on the South coast in recent years.

There is no doubt their numbers are very low compared to last century.

I made it my target bird to find and was thrilled to find one in a regular spot after walking past and trying further down the path I turned back convinved it must be more likely where I started.  I had one false start, a Robin was on the branch below but a second look and there was the lovely Spotted Flycatcher doing it's thing catching flies and returning to the same branch.

BTW  Plenty of flies !
