Stone wall, M8 tunnel entrance, WestConnex

We drove through this tunnel to and from our recent trip to Taralga. It was fast as! The tolls are expensive but we are not frequent users of the motor vehicle.

Only a bit of a scallywag, nay, tearaway, would have been able to take this photo. Access to the vantage point has been locked for years because behind the photographer is a manufactured hill meant to become a picnic area with sculptures, kids' play equipment etc but it is full of toxic material. Neither the local council nor WestConnex is taking responsibility for cleaning it up. But I found an open gate with a sign saying something like 'keep out' and there being no one around I went in briefly, before I could be shooed away.

A huge amount of rock and stones was dug out to make this tunnel. The far wall looks like it's made of stone blocks and I'd like to think some of what was taken out has been repurposed. It also appears to have been painted so as not to show up the inevitable grime.

Thanks for hosting RockArea.
