Angus

We visited the daughter of our former neighbours who gave birth to their second child in mid March. It was lovely seeing the new arrival and catching up.

They live on the north side of the city. As we headed back we drove up The Mound and the statue to the Black Watch was catching the afternoon sun. It is a memorial to those who fought in the Boer War. I have titled today’s photograph “Angus” because I have a distant memory from when I joined the Scottish Office in 1977. The then head of what we now call HR but then was “Personnel” was Jim Ford. He had written a few books and in one of them the main character walked past the statue on his way to work every morning and called him Angus.

I may be completely mistaken in my memory but it is something that has been lodged in my mind and re-emerges every time I see the statue.
