horns of wilmington's cow

It's definitely bug hunting season

Jeez it was hot today. The kind of heat that saps your energy when you are simply 'being'. The pigs had the right idea, rolling about in a wallow they were creating by tipping over their water (had to be refilled 6 or 7 times...), then lying letting it dry.

Reasonably productive work day - but I really need to get planning some time off (we've got an interim US boss just now, who has mentioned to one of my colleagues that in the US nobody uses their full holiday entitlement, and when on holiday they are still completely contactable - sod that for a game of soldiers....)

Oh, soldier, yes, this is a Grey Soldier Beetle. Vying with the rose bud hugging Crane Fly in the extras for shot of the day. I kinda like the framing of the beetle, and a straightforward one shot (a lot of bug photos I do as handheld stacks, which generally works, but can bring in some anomalies - a couple of the Crane Fly's legs aren't quite right, and the Grasshopper extra, the grass stem pops out of focus 'very' quickly).
