Fledgling
There's a lot of bird activity in the strip of trees between the school playground and the nearby road, which runs alongside a small lake. Heading back out to the car after getting some work done I heard a commotion along the fence line and decided to take a look. Yesterday I heard a chestnut sided warbler there and was hoping I might see it. As it turned out, there in a small tree was a chipping sparrow with fat caterpillar in its mouth. And sure enough, down in the grass by my feet was this hungry fledgling. I snapped a quick photo and got out of there quick so they could continue their business.
