Christmas gift in return

When I opened my mothers mailbox, I was surprised to see at a package from Australia. After checking it I found out that it was a Christmas gift that my mother had send to her great grandchild, Elias, who lives in Brisbane. It was send the 5. th. december, but to an old adresse. On the card it was written Merry Christmas and she had send him a drawing and a The Elf on the Shelf. I never knew about this and I don't understand how she was able to send it, in her condition. It was sad that Elias never got it and I think my mother must have waited for an answer. Since she could not talk normally any more, she wasn't capable to ask me either.
