Alien

I spotted this fearsome looking thing in a pool of still water where I know there are tadpoles.

A bit of Googling tells me it is the larvae of the Great Diving Beetle. A predatory larvae that feeds on tadpoles.
Probably the length of half of my finger…Never seen one before.
