Standing Tall

This common Beech tree (Fagus Sylvatica) in Saltram Park, Plymouth was remarkable for it's girth, it's height and it's straightness. I think over the years the lower branches must have been removed. In the park there are also at least two very old tulip trees. In Autumn the colours are truly spectacular. I have always thought the name was curious, and today I saw for the first time how it must have originated. The extra shows a flower from one of the tulip trees.
