"Cherished, held, remembered"
"Each of these names belongs to a woman who was killed in the six months between the murder of Sarah Everard and the sentencing of her killer. Their names were listed online with their age and the place where they were murdered. We wanted to represent them as individuals, so every name has been hand stitched by another woman. We have cherished them, held them, and will remember them."
Today, Fiona and I travelled up to Galashiels, to see this finished pice hanging in Cafe ReCharge. Many of the Samba Sisters and their friends and relatives had stitched a name. Mine was Sarah Keith. It was an emotional experience to see all the names together, the common thread linking them all being their murders.
The cafe was inspiring; it uses food which would otherwise be wasted to make tasty meals for which customers pay what they can afford on their way out. There is a community fridge and a zero waste filling station for cleaning and body care essentials.
On our way back to Dumfries we stopped at Lochcarron, "the world's leading manufacturer of tartan" to buy a tie for Fiona's dad, and then had a lovely walk around Bowhill, near Selkirk. Finally, we stopped for a coffee by the shores of St Mary's Loch.
Somehow I'm exhausted tonight!
