Welcome, Simone!
After a somewhat fraught week or two, Simone finally arrived via c-section at teatime today. This was a little later than we'd expected, and there were a couple of anxious phonecalls exchanged between me and Marianna's mum, while we all waited for a call from Jack.
Simone's fine, Marianna and Jack are happy and relaxed and Frieda's finally met her new sister. I'll remain a Facetime visitor for now, till I can be confident that there's no risk of my shingles infection giving her chicken pox. Richard will be able to drop in and have a cuddle tomorrow.
This baby had seemed hyperactive in the womb, twisting and turning every day, to the last. Once delivered, she was quick to latch on and start suckling: a wonderful sight. The c-section wasn't entirely straightforward, so there'll be a lot of healing time needed for Marianna, and the doctors say Simone may have some bruises too. I can't wait to meet her face-to-face.
We feel very fortunate.
