Peats for the winter

The traditional means of heating Highland croft homes requires plenty of lead time. Dig your trench with the traditional tools, slice the peats you're going to burn later, stack them to dry and wait for months. Notice the artful gaps in the stacks to let the air pass between. That plank bridge over the ditch looks like it's been there for generations.
