We walked up above Corneilla onto the plateau with great views down onto the Villefranche garrison town and over the depot of the little yellow train. We climbed 540 m up to the redoute, an outlying fortification, built by the famous French military architect, Vauban, who was also responsible for the main garrison town. The walk was 12.6 km in total and included a detour to a medieval Romanesque sheepfold, where cheese used to be made and stored
