Aquarium
We had intended to go to Victoria today, but got up too late. So, after I'd returned the rental car keys, we headed off to the Vancouver Aquarium in Stanley Park. After the initial disappointment of learning that the sea otters, (who were the stars of my visit in 2017) could not be viewed - because their enclosure was being refurbished - we had a good day. The sea-lion training session was fun and informative, as was the seal feeding session later (see extra). [All the mammals at the aquarium are local rescues that can't be released back into the wild.] The mesmerising jellyfish were magnificent, as before, and I've never seen fauna in such clean and "natural" tanks as here (see extras).
Afterwards, we traversed the interior of Stanley Park, via Beaver Lake, with its amazing dense blanket of water lilies, to Prospect Point. It was distinctly warm, and the lemon yoghurt cookie ice creams that we bought there went down very well. Next to the point is the Lions Gate Bridge that we took on our trip north yesterday. It dates from 1938, and carries Highway 99 after it crosses Stanley Park. We then made our way back to the Aquarium, but failed to find where the bus back into Downtown Vancouver left, so we walked back!
Tired, we chilled for a while before having dinner in "Malones" - a bar that has a special entrance from the hostel were we're staying. As well as tasty food, I had another pint of "Fat Tug" - one of the excellent citrus-hopped "West Coast" IPAs that are so good. Fortunately for A there is also a culture of craft cider in the area.
