A very wild flower
Unfurling flower bud of a giant hogweed (Heracleum mantegazzianum).
It's growing at about 6 inches a day at the moment and is nearly as big as me. It has the potential to reach 5 metres in height. The sap contains chemicals which cause the skin to become hypersensitive to light causing very painful burns which can leave scars which will stay for years. Not to be touched!
I liked the sculptural effect of the unfurling flowers so I've portrayed the main in mono but there is another version in colour in the extra.
One for Wildflower week although I know it isn't the usual pretty little wildflower! Thank you for hosting Miranda :-)
