As a guest of Encounter Kaikoura I was lucky to get up and close to many albatross. Albatross and Dolphin ENCOUNTER are both award winning, world famous eco-tourism business's that have put Kaikoura on the map for marine wildlife watching along with it's well known whale watching.

I'm trying to publish an article about albatross and albatross watching in NZ. Gazza, the skipper and brainchild behind Albatross Encounter took me and Lina out on the boat this morning to see albatross up close and chat for my story.

Living between 40 and 60 years sometimes these birds have long memories and keen intelligence. This bird was tangled in a fishing net and saved by Gazza years ago. A band on her leg indicates her as bird 512. She remembers Gazza still and often comes to visit his boat.
