through the desert
Got up early to visit the Miniatur Wunderland. It got even bigger since last time we visited. On the way we stopped at the fish market which was already very busy at 7.30 in the morning. Loved seeing the Cap San Diego, a 1960 freight ship (see extra). It's so much more elegant than today's container ships. I hear that the Panama Canal is having issues with water levels and that they are having to reduce the draft. I suspect we will get smaller ships again. The Wunderland was great. I enjoyed the new bits of South America and Antarctica. I really enjoyed their special exhibitions. The last time we saw the history one which followed a chunk of land from early settlement to the 1930ies, with really interesting details on societal changes. This time we also got to see a chunk of divided Berlin from 1949 to 1990. They also caused a bit of a stir when they showed the differences in pork production, from industrial farming to a bio farm. I really like their humour and thought-provoking story telling. We spent over 4 hours in the exhibition. Afterwards we still had some time before going back to Berlin so we decided to take it easy and opted for a harbour cruise.
