Day Flying Moths

By far the great majority of moths fly at nightime.
What is not so well known is that there are moths which are active during the day.
In the Arnside / Silverdale AONB there are about 20 different day flying moths. The main areas for seeing them are Gait Barrows, Arnside Knott and Warton Crag.

The common name for this one is Speckled Yellow. An appropriate name I think.
Its scientific name is Pseudopanthera  macularia.

This one was spotted by my 12 year old grandson Alex. Along with his older brother Matt he walked with us this morning round Gait Barrows National Nature Reserve. It is on such happy outings that one realises what brilliant eyesight teenagers are lucky to have.

Later in the Extra, Arnside Sailing Club startsits Summer Season with about 20 boats on the Estuary
