Seafire

Today was the first day of the two-day English Riviera Airshow which takes place at Paignton, which is about 8 miles from here as the plane flies. The big attractions of course are the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight and the Red Arrows. We always hang about on the deck hoping for a glimpse as planes fly over, frequently from Exeter Airport. Many of course fly in from other displays. The Red Arrows took a circuitous route from Exeter and we didn't know they were there until they appeared over the ridge that separates us from the bay. I got a couple of half decent shots but they are along way off. I'll put one in as an extra.
 
The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight consisted of a Spitfire and a Hurricane (no Lancaster) I saw them come over but my photos weren't up to scratch. We also saw a Fairey Swordfish and a couple of stunt planes but the image i like best is the one of the Supermarine Seafire XVII. It's the naval version of the most famous WWII aircraft, the Spitfire. This one's modified to operate from aircraft carriers.
