Fox and hedgehog

This was on my wildlife cam overnight. The foxes usually ignore the hedgehogs, but this hog was making loud crunching noises which attracted the fox’s attention.

One cub now comes with the parents every night. I had hoped for more than one cub so I could watch them playing!

The whole morning was grey today - welcome relief for all my plants which have been roasted. But the sun appeared in the afternoon. There’s been a hosepipe ban here since August 2022 so it takes ages to water from my rainwater butts. And that water won’t last forever so I have to be careful with it. It seems so unfair that the ban is probably being extended for longer because thousands of holidaymakers are here using extra water. It seems that very little has been done to let holidaymakers know there is a ban, and to ask them to be careful with their water use. I overheard some talking about it today, but one said ‘But I’m on holiday! I ‘ll use as much water as I want’. But locals are having to pay for water they can’t have! South West Water (one of the worst in the country for letting sewage pollute our sea and our rivers) only gave residents one refund of £30 back in January.

My car feels like sandpaper with its dried-on dust. I shouldn’t have to pay for a car wash when I’m already paying for water.

But at least my visiting foxes and hedgehogs seem happy.

My grass is too long because it’s been ‘no mow May’. Now it’s June so I have no excuse! Apart from the heat!
