Arctic Tannery

These are the warehouses of the former Arctic Tannery at Victoria Docks, Dundee. Now restored and converted to modern apartments, the buildings were built for the storing, tanning and curing of seal skins. Inside were large tanks for the storage of oil where salted seal skins and whalebones were stored. In the 1870s the buildings held the largest stock of seal skins, oil and whalebones in the world. I was struck by the timeless feel of this street, it's beautiful stonework and cobbles, and it's interesting history.
