Ten Men

Went via Mallala and Two Wells on the way back to Adelaide today. I was reminded of an old monument in Mallala to the fallen in the Great War. You can see it down the wide straight road coming into town from Balaklava. The big solid structure used to be in the centre of a five way roundabout. Now the roundabout has been remodelled to a more conventional four way with the monument off to one side.
As a kid I remember we’d look out for it on our way up to our relative’s farm at Kybunga. It was usually a Friday night, and we were sleepy kids in the back seat of the Vauxhall Victor.

Extra: In Honor
The strange blue and brown design at the base is a map of Australia, with Cape York, Northern Territory and The Kimberly region visible from this angle.
