USCG Memorial
On our way back from a drive to Bradenton and Manatee County, we stopped at the Sunshine Skyway Bridge's northside fishing pier and rest area to stretch our legs (Pepperspeak for "I want to take a few pics"). There is a memorial located there to honor the loss of 27 souls when the US Coast Guard Cutter Blackthorn sank nearby in 1980. Standing there I realized that the Buckthorn's anchor, a prominent feature of the memorial's site, would allow me to frame C as she stood quietly reading about the cutter (a WWII vintage Iris class buoy tender), the collision with a tanker, and the list of those on board who lost their life.
Almost as if fate decided to prove a point about the power of the squalls that come ashore off the bay, thunder storms with heavy winds and driving rains struck and we ended up driving home through stretches of flooding streets. Home safe we're hunkered down for evening. Take care Blipfolk ... and the adventures through the viewfinder continue.
