Tiny lupin

In my childhood home there was a large bed devoted to lupins. Stately plants bearing tall flower spikes in a variety of colours. So when I saw a little lupin plant for sale I had to buy it for old times’ sake. It was planted in the middle of the big flower bed. It hasn’t grown much in stature and is swamped by nearby plants, but it has produced a lovely little pink flower, so I am happy. Maybe it will be a bigger plant next year.
We lunched today with an old friend who lives about an hour away. As always it was a pleasure to drive through the countryside. Gone are the bluebells and cowslips, and the cow parsley is past its best. Now the roads are bordered with buttercups and ox eye daisies , and the hawthorns are dazzling white.
