A modest office
Old Parliament House was the home of the federal government for 61 years, from 1927 when it opened as a 'provisional' parliament house until 1988 when parliament moved to the present, much more grandiose building. Some of the original offices have been preserved, including the Prime Minister's office as it was when Prime Minister Bob Hawke occupied it from 1983 to 1988.
The most remarkable thing about this office and those of the PM's staff is how modest they were, way below the standard most of us would expect now. That didn't stop Bob from achieving there great things for Australia.
