Living my dream

Straight track

N has been mowing the Bean-walking tracks around all his paddocks. We had a much longer walk than usual and celebrated his hard work. Bean fairly bounced along, although she wasn’t quite up to any zoomies.

She is on the mend and I reckon she’ll be back to complete fitness by the end of the week.

My homework to investigate options for her food has been illuminating and surprising.

The raw food which I’ve been giving her has just increased in price and once I worked out exactly how much it will cost in future it turns out to be a stonking $62 a month more expensive than the low-fat gastrointestinal food recommended by the vet. Not that I’ll be buying it at the vets’ though: it is $71 cheaper online.

So much to my surprise - and some sadness because I like the simplicity of raw aka ‘real’ food - I shall switch her diet to the commercial brand. It will put my mind at rest considerably regarding the future chances of her suffering from pancreatitis again. Her health is my priority.

It seems that the dementia care home may be exactly what #3 brother wants and needs. Friends have visited him and the words they’ve used to describe him include “calm”, “chatty” (albeit it largely nonsensical), “relaxed” and “cheerful”. All of this is in stark contrast to his demeanour before arriving there.

It is early days of course, but here’s hoping he continues in this frame of mind. Time will tell. There are bound to be bumps in the road, but for now at least it is providing him some peace. I am unspeakably thankful for that.
