Back Up the Middle
In the 5th inning, the score was tied 6-6 with a runner on first and there was one out. Merrick pitched the ball and the batter hit a high hopper right back to him. He fielded the ball, wheeled and threw to the shortstop covering 2nd base, then the shortstop threw over to first base. BOOM-BOOM! DOUBLE PLAY! INNING OVER!
Great story, eh? Like a reporter from ESPN. The trouble with it? It's not true. It wasn't off the bat at all. It is a throw back from the catcher.
How did the game really go? We fell one run short, because the game ended in an 8-8 tie. The sun was departing and we didn't have enough daylight to start another inning.
