Light Installation
Day three of the conference started out as did yesterday morning; thick fog. I thought that I might be able to get some interesting foggy pictures of Circular Quay, and headed off towards the Harbour Bridge. Once on the bridge it became very clear that the view was far from clear. I could basically see only a few hundred metres. I turned around at the first pylon and returned, photoless.
Well, without any pictures from there. On the way to the bridge, my attention had been caught by these glass spheres being shone on by red and blue lights, which also bathed the area in light as well. It might be called Australia and New Zealand (although the sign seemed very unclear on that). It is apparently part of the festival of light, another part of which was the display that we enjoyed on Sunday evening. We were told by a Sydney colleague that the reason for this was to be better than Melbourne. I don't think he was joking.
I was pleased to have included another early morning runner in my photo, and like the way that the light has picked out some aspects of her. Perhaps easier to see in large.
At the conference today I went to a couple of interesting talks by the winner of the College's Senior Research Prize on Bipolar Disorder. He talked about a probable difficulty that is going to arise with changes to the diagnostic criteria in DSM5. After lunch, I attended an interesting session where a panel, more than assisted by the audience, discussed professional ethical conundra; bullying by a supervisor was one of them.
I am enjoying the process of attending a conference accompanied by tsuken. Very humbling to have one's son as the bright young spark I fancy I might once have been. This evening S and I are visiting a Sydney colleague, which ware looking forward to.
