A long day at the office again, going in early on the train and back quite late. It's drizzled on and off for most of the day. I had nothing in the camera when I left for home, damp still in the air and the light fading. But I've come to trust that there will always be an opportunity, although I think I'm now much bolder in grasping at them when they appear. A few months ago there is no way I would ever have seen myself going over to this group of smokers, sheltering in the doorway of the Sun Hotel en route to the station.
It was impossible to take a candid shot so I just asked if I could take a few pictures, quickly explaining the concept of blipping. They were very amused by the notion that I thought they were a desirable subject for a photograph. With a camera in my hand I seem to assume a different, altogether more confident personality. I was drawn to them because of the laughter they were sharing as well as a smoke. I'm not sure what they were finding so funny when I went over but I certainly knew when I left. The joke was very definitely on me. And I didn't mind a bit.
