Band of Brothers
This was the scene at 7:45am as my neighbour and his brother were on their way to the start in Bristo Square of the Edinburgh Half Marathon run. It is the weekend of the Marathon Festival and today was the turn of the full marathon and the half marathon. The lads look very laid back and chilled, a look I never aspired to at the start of a run but then I was double their age when I took part. I blame HL.
I see they are back now and celebrating with friends. They did suggest earlier that I join them but I have no wish to put in an appearance as the elderly
neighbour amidst the pretty young things I’ve seen turning up. Instead I am happy to sit on the patio with my glass of Prosecco and my crocheting and people watch as they pass on the other side of the railings.
Actually, I don’t find it that warm for sitting although no doubt it was temperature perfect down the coast for the runs. The sun is behind clouds and the wind is yet another cool NE one.
Earlier when the sun was high in the sky I had a valedictory Sunday coffee with the Merry Widows, celebrating the birthday of one of our numbers with buns - high living indeed. I won’t see them again for 2 months and no doubt much water will have flowed under the bridge by then.
