Last of the Summer Wine

It is 50 years since the first episode of Last of the Summer Wine was shown on TV - the early days were the best! I live a few miles from Holmfirth where it was predominantly filmed, in fact I am based there for work, some of it was filmed in the village where I live. There were lots of anniversary activities happening in Holmfirth today, and the postboxes were wearing toppers, this one depicting Compo and Nora Battye. Bill Owen who played Compo, and Peter Sallis who played Cleggy loved Holmfirth so much that they are buried side by side in a churchyard about a mile from Holmfirth centre.
