Shap Abbey (DS351)

A victim of Henry 8th's reformation, Shap Abbey must have been an impressive sight before his suppression of the monasteries.  I liked this view onto the large West Gate - the last major addition before the reformation.  Seen in large you can probably make out two roof lines on the tower, above the arch.  An over ambitious addition caused a few structural issues and had to be reduced in scale.
I was stood in what would have been the latrine to get this viewpoint :-)
Three images combined as an HDR in Lightroom.

An unexpected gem found in the abbey tea room in Shap - plenty of DF/GF options.

We have driven the short distance up the M6 to Kendal and met up with our daughter and her family.

Sizergh Castle tomorrow.
