Stockholm Day 4

This is a very late posting again - we’ve been very busy being tourists and also travelling.

One of the things we wanted to do while we were in Stockholm was travel on the Metro (underground) to have a look at some of the stations, as we’d heard that they were beautifully decorated.  So the only opportunity we had left was to do it this morning.  MrMacD had found a blog that detailed a trail of the 14 best stations and, based on that, made a list of the stations we thought we could do in the time we had.  We managed to do 9 stations and it was quite fun hopping off the train, running around taking photos and jumping back on the next train.  Afterwards we went back to the hotel to collect our bags, then walked to the Arlanda Express platform to catch a train to the airport.  At the airport we did a self-check in, went through security, then immigration and had time to sit down with a coffee and a shared sandwich.  We were travelling with SAS, it was a full plane but a comfortable, smooth flight and we landed at Manchester Airport slightly ahead of time.  Not having bags to collect, as soon as we’d cleared immigration we headed for the train station and were soon on a train to Manchester Piccadilly.  It didn’t take long to walk to our hotel where we dropped our bags and went for a drink in the bar.  MrMacD was itching to have a curry, so we asked the waitress if she could recommend an Indian restaurant.  She suggested we go to Manchester’s “curry mile” and a restaurant called Mughli.  We took her advice, hopped into a taxi and not long afterwards were at our destination.  We enjoyed our meal but it wasn’t exceptional and we felt slightly uncomfortable on the street.  It’s quite different to Southall in London, although that’s probably changed since we were last there.

It was a long day and it marked the end of the European leg of our trip and the beginning of the UK leg.  We’ve thoroughly enjoyed our time in Europe and are waiting to see what adventures the UK will bring.

I am way, way behind responding to lovely comments and dipping into blippers’ journals.  I’ll catch up as and when I can.

The blips show a selection of photos taken on the underground, a sweet little sign on the platform for the Arlanda Express, a sculpture outside Manchester Piccadilly station and the view from our hotel room.

 I have updated the extra.
