An ordinary life....

A pocketful of happiness...

Started the day with a two hour hydro session in the pool this morning.  It felt great, especially the chill out at the end :-)

A light lunch as we were having an early dinner at Cafe Kisa in Perth before going to the Concert Hall for An Evening with Richard E Grant.

We were at the restaurant at 5.30pm and enjoyed a lovely dinner of freshly baked flat bread with olive oil and balsamic vinegar, medallions of beef fillet in a peppercorn sauce, dauphinoise potatoes, and root veg.  I had a scoop of vanilla ice cream for dessert but David went all out and had the chocolate orange and Nutella brioche bread and butter pudding with Grand Marnier toffee sauce and vanilla ice cream.  I don't know where he puts it.  Hollow legs!

The concert hall is bedside the restaurant so we didn't have to go far.  Seated by 7.20pm with the show starting at 7.30 on the dot.  And what a fantastic night it was.

Just like his book, he had the audience laughing and crying and gasping, sometimes in shock (his horrid teenage experience when in a drunken stupor, his father attempted to shoot him after he poured his father's whisky down the sink) and in delight (spilling the beans on Hollywood A-listers who are not quite so nice in real life)  He spoke so movingly about his wife and the last months of her life, and her death on 2nd September 2021 from stage 4 lung cancer.

Before the interval he invited the audience to text questions to him that he would answer in the second half of the show.  That was hilarious.  So many interesting, funny and poignant questions asked, each one answered with searing honesty, humour and a little indiscretion.  Perfect!

He takes his show to Aberdeen tomorrow, which will be very poignant for him, as his wife Joan was an Aberdonian.  He was asked if he was staying in a posh hotel this evening and he said no, he was driving to Aberdeen to stay with his brother in law.  That just made him all the more likeable.

Before she died, his wife challenged him to find a pocketful of happiness in every day, after she was gone.  He is trying his hardest to do so and I wish him all the very best in that endeavour.
