Mechanical calendar

We bought this mechanical calendar at the Taj Mahal in 2017 at the urging of our guide who said the vendor was particularly deserving. The guide was going to show us how to use it but didn't get around to it. 

The inside and outside wheels move in relation to each other. I think I might go have a fiddle with, see if I can work it out.
