Cornwall Adventure Day 4 - Tintagel
Tintagel Castle has been on my "bucket list" of places to visit, so today was the day! It's a fascinating site, with the remains of 5th-6th Century ("Dark Ages") settlement and a 13th Century castle set in the most glorious scenery on the North Cornish coast.
The castle has a long association with the legend of King Arthur, starting in the 12th century when Geoffrey of Monmouth described Tintagel as the place of Arthur's conception brought about with some magical help from Merlin.
Today a sea cave under the castle is known as Merlin's Cave (extra) while Arthur himself stands proudly on one of the headlands relaxing on his sword Excalibur.
