Barbary Macaques

Bejaia, Algeria.  We took a (very basic!) bus up to the Pic des Singes, a UNESCO World Heritage site where troops of Barbary Macaques are known to roam.  They are the only surviving species of its genus in Africa.  Weirdly, we did not see a single monkey there!  (But spectacular views after a climb to the top of a ridge -- see extra.)

We then drove to Le Cap Carbon -- another reserve with lovely views ... and a monkey or two every few feet!

Sadly, all this beauty is rather spoiled by the shocking amount of garbage strewn absolutely everywhere -- most of it piled up underneath the signs asking you not to litter ... I really hope this attitude changes soon.
