A Half Timbered Flowering

I took a quick trip out to West Malling today for a small food shop and a change of scenery. It was a lovely day but actually quite blustery which took the edge of any perceived feeling of increased warmth. I did my shopping first and then took a circular route around the town centre.
Today's shot was taken down one of the narrow side streets just off the High Street called West Street, which can trace its origins back to the 12th Century.
Half timbered buildings such as the one shown in the foreground of my image involve a medieval method of construction, sometimes also called timber framing, which wears its wood frame on its sleeve, so to speak, the wooden wall framing - studs, cross beams and braces - are exposed to the outside, and the spaces between the wooden timber filled with plaster, brick or stone. I loved the contrast between the black and white outside of this house and that wonderful splash of colour from the flowers in the front garden.
I tried to find out the name of the house and some of its history but even after scanning several local history websites I haven't been able to find any further details..yet. My investigations will continue and I may report further in a future blip!
