Public Health

Ideas of public health and hygiene have changed since the installation of this drinking fountain on the platform of Dufftown Station when it was opened in 1926.

The cast iron fountain, model number D17, was made by the Kennedy Patent Water Meter Company Limited of Kilmarnock.

The inscription at the top of the back plate exhorts users to keep the pavement dry.

The use of the communal cup attached by a chain would presumably have been less unattractive to passengers at the time than in our post Covid era.
